Childbirth and parenting education are provided as a community service of Bothwell Regional Health Center and are available to all parent-to-be. The program is designed to be flexible. Each class is called a Module and is taught by a nurse specially trained in pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and parenting skills.

Our Modules and Their Content
Modules 1 and 2 should be taken consecutively. Modules 3, 4, and 5 can be taken in any order.

Module 1: Labor and the Birthday Party
Attend an overview of labor, delivery, and post delivery. Learn what happens emotionally and medically. Find out about medical interventions such as induction of labor, including vaginal and cesarean births. (6 hours/ 3 classes)

Module 2: Labor Can Be a Pain
This module will help you understand interventions to reduce the pain associated with labor. Relaxation and breathing techniques, as well as medical remedies, are discussed.

Module 3: Infant Safety and CPR
Learn car seat safety, poison control, infant CPR and other measures to take if your baby is choking. (2 hours/ 1 class)

Module 4: What Do I Do With This Baby?
Learn how to take care of your newborn. This includes bathing, infant massage, and what to expect from your newborn the first weeks at home. (2 hours/1 class)

Module 5: Breast Feeding For Sure or Just Thinking About It
Perfect class for you if you plan to breast feed or are still thinking about it. Successful breast feeding techniques will be discussed and questions answered. (2 hours/ 1 class)

Which Modules Should I Take?
First Baby Modules 1-5 are recommended
Refresher course Modules 1, 2, and 3 are recommended (but feel free to take any others you would like)
