In the past
three years,
Bothwell
Regional
Health
Center’s
Cancer
Center has
seen a 23
percent
increase in
demand for
cancer
treatment.
The number
of patients
seeking
medical
oncology
(chemotherapy)
in our area
has more
than doubled
since 2005.
Bothwell
also is the
area’s
largest
provider of
Inter-Modulated
Radiation
Therapy, a
highly
accurate
type of
radiation
therapy that
results in
less damage
to healthy
tissue.
This growth
in demand
for cancer
treatment
has created
a
corresponding
need for the
health
center to
increase its
capacity for
these
much-needed
services.
This new
facility
will allow
the health
center to
offer more
treatment
areas for
chemotherapy
in a private
setting, and
provides the
opportunity
to recruit
an
additional
medical
oncologist.
The project
also
includes
replacement
of the
center’s
linear
accelerator,
which
provides
radiation
therapy.
Other
improvements
include a
patient
education
resource
room and
private
patient and
family
reception
areas.
