CPAP/BiPAP THERAPY (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure/Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) - This is usually an additional polysomnogram that is performed after the diagnosis of sleep apnea. A mask is placed over the nose and a small bedside pump pushes a steady stream of air pressure into the patient to keep the airway open. The additional study is performed to deliver the adequate amount of pressure to ensure proper treatment for this type of sleep disorder.
MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test) - An additional study performed the following day after an all night polysomnogram. The patient is to participate in 4 to 5, 20-minute naps scheduled throughout the day.
The MSLT is for the diagnosis of hypersomnolence (excessive drowsiness) and narcolepsy.
