ACS Days, American Cancer Society.  
An ACS Community Representative will be conducting ACS Days in the Cancer Center Lobby, every other Wednesday from 9:00 -11:00 a.m.  Patients will be screened for eligibility for travel assistance (ACS gas cards), wigs, supplement, disease specific support groups, etc.  

ACS Nutritional Supplement Program, American Cancer Society. Partnering with ACS on this patient support program provides free nutritional supplement (Boost) to: 1) Patients undergoing a cancer therapy that require nutritional support; or 2) Cancer patients with long-term nutritional effects related to their disease or treatment. This program will inventory and distribute supplement through the Cancer Center after patient enrollment into the program.  Patients receive one case of supplement per month for as long as they need it. Request nutritional support during your follow-up appointment with: William Decker, M.D., Radiation Oncology and/or Bassem Chaar, M.D., Medical Oncology.
 

Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group
Meetings held at 6:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month,
Location: Bothwell Education Center
Objectives:
  • To give support to individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease and their families
  • To educate the public about all forms of Alzheimer’s
  • To learn from others and to forma continuing support system
  • To learn from professionals coping techniques and how to have a better quality of life

Arthritis Support Group - Sedalia, MO and Surrounding Areas
Meetings – First Wednesday of each month • 6:00- - 7:30 p.m. Bothwell Education Center

Objectives:
• To give support to individuals and their families who have arthritis.
• To educate the public about all forms of arthritis.
• To learn from others and to form a continuing support system.
• To learn from professionals on how to cope and have a better quality of life.
FACT: Arthritis is one of the most prevalent chronic health problems and the nations leading cause of disability among Americans over age 15.
FACT: Arthritis is second only to heart disease as a cause of work disability. Arthritis limits everyday activities such as walking, dressing and bathing

Diabetes Education Program Our unique Diabetes Education Program at Bothwell Regional Health Center provides individuals with diabetes the skills and knowledge needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of long-term complications. For more information click here.

Diabetes Support Group - Meetings: Third Tuesday of each month, 5:30 p.m.
Location: Bothwell Education Center.  This community service is open to all people with diabetes and their family members at no cost.

Objectives:
  • To provide support to individuals and their families who have diabetes
  • To provide an environment where individuals can share their feelings and gain valuable tips from others who are in the same situation
  • To provide information on a variety of topics related to diabetes to help individuals better manage their condition
  • To educate and bring awareness to the public about diabetes

The Doctor is In -  The Dr. Is In is a free community wellness program hosted quarterly by Bothwell Regional Health Center and presented by members of our medical staff.


High Hopes Cancer Support Group –Meeting Time: 6 - 8  p.m. on the 3rd Tuesday of each month Location: Bothwell Regional Health Center Cancer Center
Objectives:
  • To provide a social network with others who face similar difficulties and help reduce feelings of isolation
  • To offer an atmosphere where all emotions can be expressed safely and openly
  • To help confront anxieties and fears and identify needs while devising a plan of action to meet those needs
  • To expand and improve coping skills and problem-solving abilities so new challenge can be met
  • To assist with adjustments to new medical, social, professional and financial realities
  • To teach now to redefine priorities, clarify values and goals, and use time and energy wisely

We welcome all patients with cancer and their families to attend.

Look Good, Feel Better (LGFB); American Cancer Society (ACS).
A patient support program. Four cosmetology/hair/skin & nail experts are trained to assist cancer patients in hair, skin, nail, and make-up care while undergoing treatment with chemo &/or radiation therapy.  To attend a session, you must register in advance by contacting Lisa Althoff at 573-635-4839. Look Good, Feel Better sessions for 2009: January 14, March 11, May 13, July 8, September 9, November 11 5 to 7 p.m. Bothwell Regional Health Center Cancer Center.

Personal Health Manager, American Cancer Society (ACS)
This is an individualized, disease-specific patient support and education portfolio that will be available in April. This program is free to all BRHC cancer center patients.  BRHC is ACS's first oncology program to launch the PHM in Missouri. Stroke Survivor Support Group
Growing together in encouragement and understanding
Meetings – First Friday of each month • 11a.m. – Noon
Location: Ground Floor Board Room
Objectives:

  • To provide the opportunities for learning and teaching about the causes, physical and psychological effects and the prevention of stroke
  • To bring together people who have had a stroke and their families, friends and caregivers for mutual help and support
  • To allow people who have had a stroke and their family members to express their achievements, frustrations and difficulties knowing that each person will be accepted as he or she is
  • To allow members to meet with those having similar experiences and problems and to support and encourage on another
  • To serve the community and surrounding areas as a resource of information and encouragement
