Bothwell Regional Health Center Earns Stroke Center Certification

11/22/2019

Sedalia, Missouri, Nov. 22, 2019 – Bothwell Regional Health Center is pleased to announce that it has earned certification as an acute stroke-ready hospital by The Joint Commission.

For Bothwell to become stroke certified, The Joint Commission requires a variety of standards be met, including having a dedicated stroke-focused program with qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care.

“Achieving certification shows commitment to operational excellence,” said Lori Wightman, Bothwell CEO. “It validates the care we have been providing and also standardizes that care for every patient.”

For the community, certification means a suspected stroke patient will be quickly assessed upon arrival and have appropriate testing, medication, and potential transfer completed quickly to improve their outcome.

According to Michele Laas, interim Chief Nursing Officer, Bothwell received official notification of certification Nov. 20.

“We were surveyed by The Joint Commission in September but have been diligently working toward this goal for some time,” Laas said. “We appreciate the dedication and tenacity of the many individuals who were focused toward attaining this certification.”

According to official notification, the certification cycle is effective beginning Sept. 21, 2019 and is customarily valid for up to 24 months.
