Traveling

Traveling to and from Sedalia is made easy with the Kansas City International Airport and Columbia Regional Airport. Additionally, St. Louis is 190 miles east of Sedalia and Whiteman Air Force Base is located 10 miles west, in Knob Noster, Missouri. Keep an eye on the sky and you will catch the B-2 Stealth Bomber flying overhead.

Amtrak is another great way to travel to and from Sedalia. Relax and enjoy great views of the Missouri countryside traveling from St. Louis and Kansas City with stops at St. Louis, Kirkwood, Washington, Hermann, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Warrensburg, Lee’s Summit, Independence and Kansas City.

Heckart Community Center
The Heckart Community Center is utilized by everyone from the senior population to youth, teens and families of all ages. The center includes an indoor swimming pool, fitness equipment, full-size gym and indoor running track. A wide variety of recreational activities, lessons, sports and special events are available for all area citizens.

Historic Downtown Sedalia
The newly revitalized Sedalia downtown is meant to honor its historic past and look toward the future. New, locally-owned businesses and a burgeoning restaurant and entertainment scene continue to grow. The historic downtown is also the venue for most community gatherings, including the annual Christmas parade, Thanksgiving lighting and fireworks ceremony, St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl, and more.

Leisure Park

Missouri State Fair
Held every year in August for 11 days, more than 330,000 attendees enjoy daily concerts, exhibits, competitions for animals, homemade crafts, shows and multiple fair food and drink stands.

Recreation

Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site
With a grand view from the top of a bluff, Bothwell Lodge is one of the best early 20th-century representations in the Midwest. Most of the furnishings are original in the 31-room and 12,000-square-foot lodge. There is a three-mile hike and mountain bike trail as well.

Katy Trail
In total length, the Katy Trail is 237 miles stretching across most of Missouri; a majority of it follows Lewis and Clark’s path up the Missouri River intersecting with rural farmland and scenic small towns. A great place to start is at the full-service Katy Depot Trailhead.

Sedalia Parks
Sedalia is home to seven parks including Centennial Park, Liberty Park, Clover Dell Park, Katy Park, Housel Park, Hubbard Park and Vermont Park. Our parks feature wonderful amenities including pools, shelters and playgrounds.

Truman Reservoir
Also known as Truman Lake and just a short drive from Sedalia between Clinton and Warsaw on the Osage River, this recreational area has a national reputation for crappie and bass fishing with many locations for boat launches, campgrounds, swimming beaches, docks, marinas and playgrounds.
