Salvation Army Service Center

The Sedalia chapter of The Salvation Army nonprofit organization offers resources and services to Pettis County residents, including food pantry items and donations. The organization also offers support services and assistance including utility and rent assistance, homelessness resources, senior programs, meal programs and more. The food pantry is open from 10 am to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Thrift Store sells donated clothing, shoes, accessories and household items, with proceeds supporting the organization’s mission and services.

The Salvation Army Center for Hope in Jefferson City, Missouri, provides a family shelter and emergency assistance to help with mortgage/rent, utility bills, clothing, medication bills and other needs to keep families in their homes.

The Salvation Army Crossroads Shelter in Independence, Missouri, is a 62-bed shelter, the only one of its kind in eastern Jackson County. It is open to individuals and families seven days a week, 365 days a year. Residents are allowed up to a 90-day stay in which they also have the opportunity to take life skills classes and participate in a required support group. The organization also provides a food pantry and an after-school program.

Harbor House is a 24-hour emergency shelter in Columbia, Missouri, affiliated with The Salvation Army. The shelter serves men, women and families. Intake is at 1 pm and on a first-come basis. Intakes are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, except holidays. The shelter recommends to call the afternoon before to check for any available openings the next morning. Drug and alcohol screening are completed at intake. Persons with certain criminal histories are not accepted (violent, sexual). The shelter has 23 men’s rooms, 14 women’s rooms and six family unit rooms. There is a daily lunch from noon to 1 pm.
