Volunteer at Bothwell
Our volunteers are a vital part of the services we provide to our patients and their families. They deliver flowers and newspapers, escort patients, assist patients’ families and visitors, staff the gift shop, prepare patient information packets and provide spiritual support.
By performing these small but very important services, our volunteers add a personal touch to the hospital and help make it a warm, friendly place.
Bothwell offers a variety of volunteer opportunities:
- Information Desk
- Gift Shop
- Concern Desks
- Clerical
- Chaplain
- Joint Center Coaches

Bothwell Auxiliary
The Auxiliary is a major supporter of Bothwell. Aside from managing and operating the gift shop, they host book fairs, scrub sales, jewelry shows and coordinate the annual Ice Cream Social.
The funds raised by the Auxiliary are returned to the health center by helping purchase health-care equipment and providing scholarships. The group also operates concern desks in waiting rooms, which assists patients and visitors with various needs and information.
For more information on becoming a Bothwell Auxiliary volunteer, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Lisa Irwin at lirwin@brhc.org or 660.827.9554.
Chaplain
Chaplains visit patients and family members who request chaplain services during the admission process or during their stay at the hospital. Chaplain volunteers offer a presence that is supportive, affirming, consoling and positive. The chaplain does not lead the patient in conversation or activity but instead listens to the patient and acts in a supportive capacity. Hospital staff can help put patients and families in contact with a member of the Chaplain Services staff.
People suitable to serve as a volunteer chaplain include anyone in a church leadership, service or ministry position. This includes pastors, elders, deacons, parish nurses, Sunday school teachers and others. Because volunteer chaplains represent Bothwell while performing these services, they must be moral, mature and act in a professional and self-composed manner. The person must fill out a volunteer application and undergo a background check in addition to completing training provided by the health center.
For more information on our chaplain services, please contact Denise Hoffmann at dhoffmann@brhc.org or 660.827.9134.
Gift Shop
The Gift Shop at Bothwell hospital is operated by the Bothwell Auxiliary and offers many specialty and holiday gift items, fresh flower arrangements and more.
The revenues raised by Gift Shop sales are returned to hospital improvement projects. For more information, please contact or visit the Gift Shop.
