Bothwell Sleep Center reaches 15-year accreditation milestone

Bothwell Regional Health Center announces that Bothwell Sleep Center has maintained accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for 15 consecutive years, demonstrating its commitment to providing high-quality care for people who have sleep problems.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Bothwell Sleep Center on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President Dr. Anita V. Shelgikar. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, reflecting a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered services that help people sleep better and live healthier lives.”

Founded in 1975, the AASM is the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers and the leading professional society for physicians, researchers and health care professionals in sleep medicine. The organization works to advance sleep care and improve lives through high standards, advocacy, education and research. Since accrediting its first center in 1977, the AASM has grown to recognize more than 2,300 sleep centers across the country.

To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans to improve the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

Accredited by the AASM since 2010, Bothwell Sleep Center has consistently met these standards through a dedication to quality care and continuous improvement. The center is staffed by a physician and certified sleep technologists and offers diagnosis and treatment for a broad range of sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy.

Marvin Smoot, Bothwell’s Clinic Operations vice president, said the milestone reflects the team’s dedication to excellent patient care.

“Achieving 15 years of uninterrupted accreditation is a significant accomplishment,” he said. “It represents a sustained commitment to safety, innovation and high-quality care, and I’m grateful for the entire team’s hard work and expertise.”
