Physician joins Bothwell Truman Lake community after completing rural residency

Bothwell Regional Health Center is pleased to announce that Dr. ShiAnne Farris has joined the medical team at Bothwell Health Center – Truman Lake in Warsaw, where she is now accepting new patients.

Farris recently graduated from the Bothwell-University of Missouri Rural Family Medicine Residency, the first residency program in Missouri specifically designed to train physicians to practice in rural communities. As a family medicine physician, she provides full-scope care, including preventive visits, chronic disease management, pediatrics, women’s health, prenatal care (excluding deliveries), minor procedures and inpatient hospital care.

Farris is no stranger to rural life. She grew up in Alva, Oklahoma, started working at her local hospital at age 16 and spent 10 years as a nurse before earning her medical degree from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa. That nursing background, she said, shapes the way she communicates with patients and collaborates with care teams.

“We see generations of patients, know their families and can often pick up on issues affecting their health just by understanding their story,” Farris said. “I believe that’s something pretty special.”

Lori Wightman, CEO of Bothwell Regional Health Center, said Farris represents exactly what the residency program was built to do.

“Dr. Farris trained here, put her roots down here and is now going to care for patients here,” Wightman said. “That is the whole point of this program, and it is good news for the Truman Lake community.”
