Foot and ankle surgeon joins Bothwell Orthopedics and Sports Medicine
Paul Kolyesnykov, DPM, a fellowship-trained reconstructive foot and ankle surgeon, has joined Bothwell Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and will begin seeing patients Oct. 12.
A Smith-Cotton High School graduate, Kolyesnykov treats a full range of foot and ankle conditions, including ankle sprains, fractures and instability, Achilles injuries and tendinitis, bunions, hammertoes and bone spurs, flat feet and high arches, plantar fasciitis and heel pain, Morton’s neuroma, tarsal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, Charcot foot, pediatric foot problems, and sports and work-related injuries. He also treats fractures that haven’t healed properly and diabetic foot wounds.
Kolyesnykov earned a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management from the University of Minnesota and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Iowa. He completed a three-year podiatric surgical residency at Sanford Health’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Hospital, a Level I trauma center in Fargo, North Dakota, where his training focused on advanced reconstruction, trauma and sports medicine.
He then completed a reconstruction and revision fellowship at OrthoIllinois and the Northern Illinois Foot and Ankle Foundation, where he trained in total ankle and talus replacement, revision surgery and correction of advanced, end-stage deformities.
Kolyesnykov said he chose podiatry because he has a passion for rebuilding what is broken.
“For me, podiatry is a highly rewarding specialty where technical precision directly translates into human impact,” he said. “I enjoy restoring the mobility patients need to reclaim their quality of life, hobbies and independence.”
Kolyesnykov encourages people not to put off care for foot and ankle pain. Problems in the foot can affect the alignment of the knees, hips and lower back.
“Many foot and ankle conditions have simple, straightforward solutions that yield immense, life-changing rewards,” he said.
Lori Wightman, Bothwell CEO, said Kolyesnykov’s training gives local patients a foot and ankle specialist in Sedalia.
“Dr. Kolyesnykov brings a depth of foot and ankle training that’s rare for a community our size,” she said. “Having a fellowship-trained surgeon choose to come back to Sedalia and care for this community is exactly what rural health care should look like. We’re proud to welcome him to Bothwell.”
For Kolyesnykov, returning to Sedalia to practice his specialty was a deliberate choice.
“I am incredibly grateful for the mentors and educators in Sedalia who shaped my early aspirations,” he said. “My long-term goal is to give back to the community that invested in me.”
Kolyesnykov will see patients in the clinic Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and perform surgery on Wednesdays. He will also provide coverage at the Bothwell Wound Clinic on Friday mornings. Patients may self-refer, and referrals from outside providers are also accepted.
Kolyesnykov and his wife have four children. Outside the clinic, he plays soccer, pickleball and volleyball, and the family enjoys spending time on the water at Truman Lake, Table Rock Lake and Lake of the Ozarks.
At Bothwell Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Kolyesnykov joins Dr. Kelly Edwards, Dr. Douglas Kiburz, Dr. Evan Stout and Physician Assistants Lindsey Edwards and Cade Chiles. The clinic is located on the third floor of the Healing Arts Center. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the clinic at 660.826.5890 or Centralized Scheduling at 660.829.8888.
