The Bothwell Foundation recently awarded $9,000 for the Pat Gaunt Leadership in Nursing Scholarship to seven employees for their continuing education.
Alicia Rayner, a registered nurse (RN) case manager at Bothwell Regional Health Center (BRHC), was awarded one of the seven scholarships. Rayner is pursuing her master’s degree in Nursing at Central Methodist University. “I have found my calling working as a case manager at Bothwell Regional Health Center,” Rayner said. “This position has been the happiest I have been throughout my nursing career. My 10-year goal is to be a certified RN case manager.”
Jacey Etter began her career in the dietetics department at BRHC in 2015. She then decided to join Bothwell’s Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) program, which made her realize that nursing is her calling. Jacey plans on attending the Saline County Career Center’s LPN program this fall.
Chelsie Snapp is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) in 3 Southwest at Bothwell. Snapp said her main career goal is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. She will be attending the Saline County Career Center LPN program this fall.
Kylie Musgrave decided she wanted to go into nursing after spending a few hours job shadowing at Bothwell. “Being able to job shadow this occupation was an amazing eye opener to what I wanted to do with my life. This led me to acquire my CNA and further my studies in school,” she said. Musgrave will be attending the State Fair Community College Nursing Program next spring.
Rachel Hogan works as a CNA in the Progressive Care Unit at Bothwell. Hogan is following in the footsteps of her mother, who also was a nurse. She plans on attending State Fair Community College in the spring to obtain her nursing degree.
Madeline Kindle will attend Missouri Valley College this fall to get her degree in nursing. “I want to use myself as a vessel that brings good into the world, whether it is simply giving a grieving family member a hug or saving someone’s life when they thought there was no life left to live,” Kindle said. She currently works as a CNA at Bothwell.
Mikayla Letchworth is a cardiology technician at BRHC. She plans to attend State Fair Community College to pursue a nursing degree. Her ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner or nurse educator.
These scholarships are made possible by a bequest from the estate of Patricia Gaunt, who was a registered nurse at Bothwell from 1969 until her retirement in 2001. Her bequest provides resources for other nurses to have the training they need to better serve the patients they care for each day.
