Bothwell Initiates Precautionary Lockdown Procedure after Emailed Bomb Threat

At about 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, Bothwell Regional Health Center issued a “Code Purple” in response to a bomb threat that was sent to an employee via email. At 2:54 p.m., the “all clear” was given.

Law enforcement officials believe the threat was part of a wave of similar emails sent to hospitals, schools, businesses and other facilities nationwide on Thursday afternoon.

“We contacted law enforcement and immediately followed our procedure for lockdown,” said Rose McMullin, interim CEO for the hospital. “The safety and security of our patients and our employees is always our first priority in any threat situation.”
