Bothwell Foundation to offer support seminar for caregivers Sept. 23

The Bothwell Foundation will host Prepared to Care: Support & Resources for Caregivers, a free seminar designed to assist individuals who are currently caring for a loved one or preparing to take on a caregiving role. The event will take place at 5:30 pm Tuesday, Sept. 23 in Community Room C at the Heckart Community Center, located at 1800 W. 3rd St. in Sedalia.

Sponsored by the foundation’s Community Relations committee and Sedalia Parks & Recreation, the seminar will provide attendees with practical tools, resources and expert insight to help them navigate the emotional, legal and medical aspects of caregiving with confidence and compassion.

Presenters include Tammy Wilkey, family caregiver coordinator with Care Connection for Aging Services, and Kiwi Popky-Wyatt, a licensed clinical social worker at Bothwell Regional Health Center. The seminar will cover in-home care planning, understanding hospice services, legal and estate guidance, funeral pre-planning and how to talk with loved ones about end-of-life wishes.

Diana Nichols, chair of the Community Relations committee, said the event is designed to offer encouragement and a safe space to learn and connect.

“Caregiving can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re navigating unfamiliar territory,” she said. “This seminar gives people a chance to learn from professionals, ask questions and hear from others who understand the journey.”

Light refreshments will be provided. The seminar is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. For more information, contact Lauren Thiel-Payne, Bothwell Foundation executive director at 660.829.7786 or lthiel@brhc.org.
