Nephrology

Nephrology is a specialty of internal medicine that focuses on treating diseases that affect the kidneys. Your primary care provider may refer you to our specialist to help diagnose and treat more severe or complex kidney conditions such as chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, kidney infections or swelling, kidney cancer, renal artery stenosis and kidney failure.

To assess the function of your kidneys, blood or urine tests are typically performed as well as procedures such as ultrasounds, CT scans or X-rays.

Regular testing can monitor your kidney function and detect signs of decreasing kidney function, particularly if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease or a family history of kidney problems.
