Bothwell-University of Missouri Rural Family Medicine Residency receives continued accreditation
The Bothwell-University of Missouri Rural Family Medicine Residency received continued accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) following an annual review and site visit.
Graduate medical education refers to residency or fellowship training completed after medical school. The ACGME is an independent, nonprofit organization that sets and monitors professional educational standards that help prepare physicians to deliver safe, high-quality medical care. It oversees accreditation of residency and fellowship programs in the United States.
Misty Todd, MD, residency director, said continued accreditation without citations reflects the strong work of residents, faculty and staff across the program.
“ACGME accreditation matters because it verifies our residents are receiving training that meets national standards,” Todd said. “Earning continued accreditation without citations is meaningful because it shows the program is meeting expectations across the areas that support a high-quality learning environment and patient care.”
The Bothwell-University of Missouri Rural Family Medicine Residency began in 2019, when the University of Missouri selected Bothwell as the first site in the state to implement a rural family medicine residency program. The residency provides three years of training for physicians in family medicine and supports the development of doctors who practice in rural communities.
There are six resident physicians in the program who care for patients at Bothwell Family Medicine Associates and in the hospital. Their training includes rotations such as emergency medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology as well as electives under the supervision of Bothwell physicians who serve as program faculty.
