Saturday Sports Injury Clinic opening Aug. 30
For the eighth year, Bothwell Regional Health Center and Bothwell Peak Sport & Spine are offering a free Saturday Sports Injury Clinic for student-athletes beginning Aug. 30.
Dr. Evan Stout, orthopedic surgeon at Bothwell Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, and Dr. Dalton Lohsandt, family and sports medicine physician at Bothwell Family Medicine, will evaluate athletes and provide care recommendations.
One of three Bothwell Peak athletic trainers from Smith-Cotton, Cole Camp and State Fair Community College will rotate Saturdays and assist the two physicians. While the team mostly sees football players, the clinic is for any high school or college athlete with a serious but non-emergency orthopedic injury.
The clinic is open from 9 to 10 am on Saturdays beginning Aug. 30 through Nov. 1 and is located at Bothwell Peak Sport & Spine, 3222 W. 16th St. in Sedalia. No appointment is needed and students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If further care is required, the clinic will work with families to get the student to an appropriate health care clinician.
In addition to seeing athletes for injuries in the clinic, Drs. Stout and Lohsandt will cover the sidelines at Smith-Cotton High School, Cole Camp High School and Warsaw High School football games and work closely with trainers and coaches to help keep players safe when injuries occur.
