Cancer Perks
Cancer Perks brings comfort and hope to people facing cancer by providing thoughtful care packages and helping meet urgent needs during treatment. Founded in 2015 by Whitney Cromley, Cancer Perks will join the Bothwell Foundation as an official committee effective July 1, 2025, ensuring its mission continues to grow.

The Cancer Perks Story
Cancer Perks was inspired by Cromley’s friend Karen, who battled cancer with grace and gratitude. Karen affectionately called the small kindnesses she received, like a free baked potato or a handmade hat, her “cancer perks.” These simple acts brought joy and comfort during difficult days, sparking the idea for a nonprofit that could offer similar support to others facing cancer.
Since its founding, Cancer Perks has touched the lives of hundreds of patients in Sedalia and surrounding communities. What began with Perk Bags filled with practical, comforting items, expanded into a broader mission of providing hope, support and emergency assistance for urgent needs during treatment.
The Mission
Cancer Perks is committed to brightening the days of people undergoing cancer treatment and helping them feel seen, cared for and supported. The committee works closely with the Bothwell Susan O’Brien Fischer Cancer Center team to deliver:
- Perk Bags: Thoughtful care packages filled with items like cozy blankets, lip balm, snacks, hats and encouraging notes to comfort patients starting treatment.
- Patient needs support: Help with needs through a referral process, offering timely assistance for unexpected challenges during treatment.
